Born and raised in Bar Harbor, Maine, Daniel's woodworking experience began alongside father Joe Tracy. Joe Tracy's woodwork and wood shop have been featured in both Home Furniture Magazine and Fine Woodworking Magazine. After a cross country adventure on the mainland, Daniel decided to continue his journey to the island of Maui. Today, after relocating 6000 miles from the island on which he was born, Daniel is continuing a family tradition by creating rock-based furniture in his Haiku studio. Back in the day of family camping trips, Joe had started using popple stones in his furniture, and found a beach that produced these egg shaped rocks. Camping trips turned into family treasure hunts.
Daniel's woodwork was displayed in the 2003 Maui Guild Woodworking Show and accepted into Art Maui 2004 . Island Style Woodworking offers the option of real lava, or castings made of a composite material mixed with a touch of native pigment.
'Auli'i Mitchell, a Kahuna from the Big Island, offered a blessing to Daniel's work and wished him luck in his endeavors. Native stones that have been blessed to leave the island help spread the spirit of aloha around the world.
"I have an great respect for Maui and the Hawaiian Islands. I base my beliefs on love and offer a blessing to all my work." - Daniel Tracy
